Davin Hong

About

Davin is from Phnom Penh, Cambodia. He was formally educated in Singapore and graduated from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore with a B.S. in Biological Sciences. In undergrad, he was a student researcher in Dr. Peter Preiser’s lab working on characterisation of the druggability of novel small molecule inhibitors targeting the PfRh5-basigin interface. For his undergraduate thesis, he was a visiting student at the Fidock Lab, where he was co-supervised by Dr. Mok, working on projects elucidating the genetic modulators of Plasmodium falciparum parasites asexual fitness and resistance, particularly on Southeast Asian clinical isolates and cross progenies.

After graduating from college, he joined Dahai Lab back at his alma mater as a research assistant. He studied the structural activity relationship of RNA editing enzyme, ADAR1, and its partner proteins via recombinant protein expression and protein interaction assays.

He’s now back at the Fidock Lab as a staff associate. He has a huge passion in microbiology and infectious disease research, especially those affecting communities back in his home country and in other marginalised communities. He is planning to pursue a PhD in Microbiology.
